If you're scrambling to get ready to bring home a new baby, you probably want to make sure everything in your home is ready. This involves doing everything from baby-proofing the electrical outlets to painting the nursery, and even your plumber can get involved. The following are a few ways a plumber can help you prepare your home for your new baby.

Make Sure You Don’t Have Any Plumbing Leaks
Plumbing leaks cause many issues, but they can be even more problematic if you have a baby in the house. Plumbing leaks can cause excessive moisture in the home, which creates the perfect conditions for mold growth. Mold can impact the health of everyone in your family, but it's a particularly big deal for babies.

Mold can cause sniffling, sneezing, wheezing, and other allergy symptoms in your baby. Babies who are exposed to mold can be more prone to developing asthma and other health conditions that can stick with them for life. Finding and fixing any plumbing leaks and then hiring a mold remediation company to get rid of any existing mold spores is critical for your baby's health.

Install a Water Softener
Hard water is something that should always be addressed in the home. Along with potentially causing problems with plumbing and making cleaning a whole lot harder, it's not good for your skin or hair.

Even though hard water is tough on even adults' skin, it's even worse for babies. Babies who are exposed to hard water are more prone to developing eczema. Even if this doesn't happen, hard water can leave your baby's skin uncomfortably dry and itchy. Having a plumbing install a water softener is better for your baby and everyone else in the household.

Adjust the Temperature on Your Water Heater
Your water heater might be turned all the way up right now because you might love using scalding hot water when washing dishes or taking really hot showers.

Now that you're bringing a new baby home, though, you should turn the temperature on your water heater down. It's generally advised to set your water heater temperature at less than 120 degrees. This helps minimize the chances of your baby being scalded by hot water, but you should still always adjust water to a cooler, more comfortable, and safer temperature before bathing your infant.

Install a Diaper Sprayer
If you're going to be using cloth diapers with your new baby, you'll need to be prepared to handle the mess. One good idea is to have your plumber install a diaper sprayer on your toilet. Then you can quickly and easily clean out messy diapers before tossing them in the washing machine.

Babyproof the Toilet
When your baby starts crawling and then walking, you don't want to worry about any devastating accidents with the toilet. A curious child could fall or crawl into a toilet and, even in a small amount of water, could drown.

Even if something this tragic doesn't happen, you probably don't want your precious bundle of joy reaching his or her hands into the toilet or trying to flush toys down it.

Installing toilet lid locks on your toilet will help. Your plumber may have some of these on hand and can quickly install them when doing other plumbing work in your home, making it easy for the adults and older children in the house to access the toilet while preventing the baby from opening the lid.
